The Nation's Capital Feis has long been one of the most adult-friendly feiseanna in the D.C. area.
Adult solo competitions span the full range of levels and styles: Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Novice and Prizewinner competitions in Reel, Jig, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Traditional Treble Jig, Traditional Hornpipe, Traditional Set and Treble Reel. Figure competitions include 2-hand, 3-hand, 4-hand, 6-hand 8-hand competitions. There is also a country set competition and a special Jack and Jill competition, where dancers placement in a figure to be determined are drawn on site.
The Peggy O'Neill Perpetual Cup has been awarded to the teacher of the dancer who accumulates the most points in all solo competitions.
The Adult Showcase is a championship-style competition that combines scoring from soft shoe, traditional hard shoe and traditional set. (48 bars Reel/TJ, 40 bars SJ/HP) One judge.
All adult competitions are held on one stage, traditionally starting with figures and then moving through solos.
Beginner and Advanced Beginner competitions range in size from a few to as many as 12 dancers depending on the style. The novice group in this area averages 15-20 dancers. Prizewinner is usually 10-15 dancers. While the majority of competitors are from the local schools, this feis draws the largest number of out-of-town visitors to the area.
In 2007, Nation's Capital will change to a two-day feis format with the adults competing on Saturday.
